Ocean Ave. and Merrick RD Intersection Project

Ocean Avenue and Merrick Road Intersection Improvement Project

The Nassau County Department of Public Works is hereby commencing a 30-day public comment period with regard to Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966 which stipulates that federally funded or approved transportation projects may not use land from a publically owned park, recreation area, wildlife or waterfowl refuge, or from a significant historic site, unless a determination is made that:

a) There are no feasible and prudent alternate to the use of land, or,

b) The action includes all possible planning to minimize harm to the property resulting from use.

The capital project involves improvements to the intersection of Merrick Road (CR-27) and Ocean Avenue (County road) in the Incorporated Villages of Lynbrook and Rockville Centre, Nassau County, New York. The project limits include Ocean Avenue from 300 ft. north of Sunrise Highway to 150 ft. north of Madison Street, and Merrick Road from Charles Street to a point 490 ft. east of Ocean Avenue. To effectuate the planned Ocean Avenue realignment north of Merrick Avenue, a 3,576.72sf (.08ac) portion of Morgan Days Park (owned by the Village of Rockville Centre) must be acquired and incorporated into the roadway right-of-way.

The Section 4(f) Evaluation is available for download (PDF). Hard copies are available for pickup at the Nassau County Department of Public Works located on the second floor of 1194 Prospect Avenue, Westbury, NY 11590.
