(FREEPORT, N.Y.) – During the observance of February as Black History Month in America, Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow attended Founder’s Day services at Bethel AME Church in Freeport on Sunday, Feb. 11. Accompanied by his daughter Julia, Legislator Koslow spoke to parishioners during the service spotlighting AME Church founder Bishop Richard Allen, who in 1794 established America’s first independent Black denomination in Philadelphia, Penn.

“Reverend Allen has distinguished himself as one of American history’s most influential and active Black faith leaders, and there is no better time to highlight his tremendous contributions to American society than during Black History Month,” Legislator Koslow said. “Thank you to Rev. Stephen Lewis and the whole Bethel family for welcoming my daughter and I to such a meaningful service.”
