DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH STATEMENT ON NYSDOH INVESTIGATION INTO MIDWIFE WHO FALSIFIED VACCINE RECORDS

Mineola, NY – On January 17th, 2024, The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) announced that Jeanette Breen, a Nassau County midwife, provided fraudulent vaccines and created false immunization records for roughly 1,500 NYS school-aged children across 23 counties, several hundred of whom attend schools in Nassau County.

“This is deeply concerning,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Irina Gelman. “The Nassau County Department of Health (NCDOH) is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our residents. Immunization is a critical public health tool which provides essential protection against various vaccine-preventable diseases.”

All children must be age-appropriately immunized to attend school in New York State and those who are not will be excluded pursuant to law. NCDOH works with NYSDOH and school districts to ensure compliance with NYS vaccination requirements. Any parent or guardian with concerns about their child’s vaccination status or who needs assistance in obtaining vaccinations is encouraged to contact our Bureau of Immunizations at 516-227-9416.
