(LAKEVIEW, N.Y.) – With lights flashing, horns honking and hands waving, community organizations in dozens of decorated vehicles traversed the streets of Lakeview for a “Thankful Thursday” salute to the community’s essential workers on the evening of May 21.

Nassau County Legislator Siela A. Bynoe (D – Westbury) partnered with St. Paul’s AME Church and the Lakeview branch of the NAACP to lead the vehicle parade along a route encompassing the homes of 16 essential workers in medicine, nursing, mental health care, law enforcement, public transportation, hospital administration and the court system.

The caravan included members of the Iota Theta Zeta chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; Jack and Jill program of Nassau County; the Lakeview-Malverne Lions youth football program; Lakeview Public Library; the Nassau Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and St. John’s Baptist Church of Lakeview in addition to Legislator Bynoe, St. Paul’s AME Church and the Lakeview NAACP.

The Lakeview tribute was an outgrowth of the “Thankful Tuesday” caravan in Westbury, which Legislator Bynoe initiated in partnership with Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman Viviana Russell and the Westbury United Methodist Church.

“Through our ‘Thankful Thursday’ caravan, we hope to express the profound and lasting appreciation for their courageous and selfless dedication to helping others – a sentiment that we will carry in our hearts with tremendous gratitude,” Legislator Bynoe said.
