[ARCHIVED] Whitton Reminds Veterans, Active-Duty Service Members About Nassau County’s New Veterans Program

Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton Reminds Veterans, Active-Duty Service Members About Nassau County’s New Veterans Court Program

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) is urging veterans and active-duty service members to take advantage of the Nassau County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency’s new Veterans Court Program. On Thursday, Oct. 24 and every third Thursday of each month thereafter, the agency will partner with Nassau County District Court to host hearings exclusively for veterans and active-duty service members.

During these hearings, veterans and active-duty service members - identified either through their DD214 form, a veteran health identification card; veteran ID card or driver’s license/state ID - will be given every courtesy to resolve their outstanding traffic violations or Notices of Liability, and the Traffic and Parking Violations Agency will work to bundle all traffic violations together and ideally resolve the violations in one court visit.

“We take great pride in the vibrant and diverse community of veterans and active duty service members that call Nassau County home, and whenever we have an opportunity to show our appreciation for their steadfast devotion to this country, I believe we must,” Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I am glad that Nassau County is taking this step to make traffic court a bit less arduous for our veterans and invite anyone who is eligible to avail themselves of this program.”

The Veterans Court Program is presented in conjunction with the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency and an assortment of Nassau County-based veterans’ organizations.
