On Sunday, August 6th as the nation observed National Purple Heart Day, Legislator Denise Ford, the Museum of American Armor, Hope’s Land of Candy and neighboring retailers joined forces to honor those who received the legendary military award with a presentation of armor at the Outback Shopping Center in Island Park.

Others contributing to the tribute include Outback Steakhouse, Puma's Auto Body, Island Park, Non Stop Towing in Freeport NY and Shane's Dollar Daze.

Legislator Ford stated, “Thank you Joan Cohen & Hope Cohen of Hope's Land of Candy for hosting this amazing event as a way to remember and honor the men & women who have been wounded or killed in military. I would also like to thank Outback Steakhouse, Puma’s Auto Body, Non Stop Towing and Shane's Dollar Daze for their generous donations and the Museum of American Armor of Old Bethpage for their participation.”

Joan Cohen, founder of Hope’s Land of Candy, said, “Outside of military families, few truly understand or appreciate the Purple Heart medal which is presented to those wounded or killed while serving to defend our freedoms. We wanted to find a way for families to honor their loved ones by offering something to medal recipients that always brings a smile to the faces of our customers: ice cream.”
