Anthony Trimble was found guilty in 15 minutes
MINEOLA, N.Y. – Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a known Bloods gang member was convicted today for possessing a handgun in July 2014.
Anthony Trimble, 23, of Hempstead, was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree (a C violent felony) by a Nassau jury in just 15 minutes, after a trial that lasted five days. He faces 3-1/2 to 15 years in prison and is due back in court on Dec. 10. Court of Claims Judge Philip Grella remanded the defendant after conviction.
“This dangerous defendant was carrying a loaded handgun as he walked down the street on a summer day,” Acting DA Singas said. “Thanks to the hard work of the Hempstead Police detectives, NCPD Third Squad and my office, this defendant was arrested, prosecuted and taken off the street.”
Acting DA Singas said that on July 1, 2014 at about 7:40 p.m., the defendant was observed with the outline of a handgun in his right shorts pocket as he walked northbound on Terrace Avenue in Hempstead by plainclothes Hempstead Police Department detectives. As the officers approached Trimble, the defendant ran and a foot pursuit ensued. One of the detectives followed the defendant into a vacant lot behind 91 Terrace Avenue where he observed the defendant throw what appeared to be a small handgun over a fence and into the rear yard of 5 Ryan Court, Hempstead.
The defendant began walking back towards Terrace Avenue and was apprehended by the detective. After placing the defendant in custody, the detective looked over the fence and observed a small black semi-automatic pistol and recovered a small black Beretta .25 caliber pistol that had five rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber.
The defendant currently has two open cases in Nassau County.
