(JERICHO and SYOSSET, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) thanks the Jericho and Syosset communities for the tremendous generosity they demonstrated during his second annual Winter Coat Drive in support of the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless.

The drive, which ran from Nov. 20 to Dec. 22, yielded more than 500 new and gently used winter jackets, as well as donations of other winter essentials like scarves, gloves, and hats. The Jericho and Syosset Public Libraries once again served as drop-off locations for donations.

Founded in 1985, the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless began as a grassroots local advocacy effort to bring non-profits and other community partners together to unite around the cause of homelessness so that they could expand and enhance services to meet local needs. Over time, the Coalition has expanded services to align with local community needs and evidence-based strategies for addressing homelessness, including street outreach, housing navigation, system data management and outcomes tracking.

“Not only will these hundreds of winter coats help to protect some of Nassau County’s most at-risk residents from the elements this winter, the tremendous success of our second annual coat drive sends a powerful message that so many people want to make a positive impact in the lives of others,” Legislator Drucker said. “As we enter a new year, the overwhelmingly compassionate response to this effort has filled my heart with gratitude, and I am thankful to all of the donors and our outstanding partners at the Jericho and Syosset Public Libraries for their generosity and support.”
