(ELMONT, N.Y.) – Nearly two years after Nafiah Ikram was the victim of a horrific acid attack in the driveway of her Elmont home, her assailant remains at large, and her case remains unsolved.

Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D - Lawrence) joined Nafiah Ikram and her family, County Executive Bruce Blakeman, police officials and government colleagues at NCPD headquarters in Mineola on Wednesday, Feb. 8 to announce that the total reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who attacked Nafiah has been increased to $50,000.

Nafiah was assaulted on the evening of Wednesday, March 17, 2021. According to Nassau County Police Department officials, Nafiah was walking on the driveway of her Arlington Avenue residence when was approached from behind by an unknown male. The suspect was carrying a white colored cup containing a dark colored substance which he then threw at the victim’s face. The suspect, who is described as approximately 6’2” tall, skinny build, wearing a black colored sweatshirt with a hood and wearing gloves, fled eastbound on Arlington Avenue in a 2013-15 Nissan Altima.

According to a GoFundMe page (warning - graphic, distressing images), Nafiah sustained severe burns to her face, eyes, chest, arms and lungs and was hospitalized for several weeks. She continues to undergo numerous treatments for the injuries that were inflicted upon her. All the while, she continued her studies at Hofstra University and has been a courageous beacon of perseverance and grace.

“Nafiah Ikram has inspired all of us with the determination, dignity and courage she has demonstrated throughout this unthinkable ordeal,” Legislator Solages said. “We must all work together to support Nafiah and ensure that no family endures an atrocity like this ever again. I am very thankful for the cooperation and strong support from the Nassau County Police Department and the FBI, and I believe that together, we’re going to make justice happen for Nafiah.”

Anyone with information that could help lead to the arrest and conviction of Nafiah’s attacker is urged to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477) or the FBI at tips.fbi.gov or 1-800-225-5325 (1-800-CALL-FBI).
