The Port Authority has broken ground on a transformative $19 billion dollar public/private redevelopment program to build a new John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with two giant new terminals, expansion and modernization of existing terminals, streamlined roadways, popular local retail and dining, and stunning New York artwork — all to provide our customers with the world-class travel experience they deserve.

We are entering the heavy construction phase, and while we rebuild, we apologize for the inconvenience as we completely transform JFK into a world-class gateway. If you are planning to travel from the airport, we recommend that you sign up for Port Authority Alerts or visit our Construction Impacts page for updates and tips for navigating the airport.

Vision For The Future

To accommodate the dramatic expected growth at JFK airport and to keep New York’s economy moving forward,  the Governor’s Airport Advisory Panel developed a “Vision Plan” to transform JFK into a leading global airport.

The Vision Plan provides a strategic framework for the Port Authority and its partners to completely redevelop, modify and expand existing facilities and infrastructure. The aggressive, forward-facing master plan and the project, called the JFK Redevelopment Program, provides for staged redevelopment.

Once completed, the transformed JFK will provide an outstanding world-class experience to customers, optimized land and airspace use, expanded economic opportunities for the Borough of Queens and the region, and continued economic development for our neighbors through job creation, and environmental stewardship of local wildlife and preservation of recreation.
