Why Should I Volunteer?

Volunteering with the Medical Reserve Corps is a simple and effective way to use and improve your skills, while helping to keep your family, friends and neighbors safe and healthy. The first response to any disaster is a local response. Being prepared to handle a large-scale emergency is a challenge for any community. A Medical Reserve Corps assists its community to be truly prepared by enlisting its residents to mobilize quickly to minimize disability, death and emotional trauma resulting from an emergency.

Imagine a community – or a nation – in which everyone volunteered. Everyone would expand their skills and knowledge. Everyone would be healthier. And everyone would have a more meaningful life. This is a future we all can work towards.

Who Can Volunteer?

Practicing, retired or otherwise employed medical professionals such as doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physicians assistants, veterinarians, EMTs, and others.

About the Medical Reserve Corps

The idea for a national volunteer corps emerged out of the tragic events of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Thousands of medical and public health professionals, eager to volunteer, overwhelmed local responders. Many highly skilled people were turned away. As a direct result of this need, the MRC was launched in 2002.
