Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano today announced that he will be extending the exemptions filing deadline to Tuesday, January 3, to accommodate homeowners affected by the suspension of mail delivery on January 2.
While the Department of Assessment will be open on January 2 to accept and help homeowners file their exemption applications, all post offices will be closed in observance of the New Year’s Day Federal holiday as required under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.
“With the filing deadline fast approaching, I urge homeowners who have yet to file for their property tax exemption to take advantage of this one-day extension and submit their application as soon as possible,” stated County Executive Mangano. “There is no filing fee to process any exemption application and Department of Assessment personnel will be available to answer any questions regarding the filing process and forms."
The Department of Assessment is located on the Fourth Floor at 240 Old Country Road in Mineola. The department’s normal operating hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.
