[ARCHIVED] GAYLOR COMMENDS TOWN IDA FOR REVOKING GREEN ACRES PILOT AGREEMENT

Gaylor Commends Town IDA For Revoking Green Acres Pilot Agreement; Vows to Keep Fighting Until Taxpayer Money Returned

Nassau County Legislator C. William Gaylor commended the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency (IDA) for revoking the payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement (PILOT) for the Green Acres Mall, which created an undue burden on Valley Stream Taxpayers.

“Some residents saw their property tax bill rise by over 12% as a result of this PILOT agreement,” said Legislator Gaylor. “I’d like to thank the new Town of Hempstead IDA for revoking this decision for the sake of the taxpayer.”

However, Legislator Gaylor warned that this was not the end of the issue. As a result of this PILOT, the Valley Stream School Districts have inappropriately collected over $3,000,000 more money from taxpayers than is required to fund their budgets. To this end, Legislator Gaylor has drafted and submitted a proposal to refund this money by the most transparent means possible, a refund check. Authorization by New York State is required to make this proposal a reality.

“As our representative in the Assembly and a member of the party in the majority, I’m calling on Assemblywoman Solages to introduce my legislation to return the overtaxed money to the already overburdened residents,” said Legislator Gaylor. “Revoking the PILOT agreement was just the first step. We must continue to fight until every dime is returned to the taxpayer.”
