[ARCHIVED] Thanks to the ‘Fight to put Taxpayers First’

After months of Democrats leading the fight for taxpayers to get their fair share of a tax certiorari judgment, the Democratic Minority Announces they will vote this Monday to pass a bond ordinance of $61,200,000 to pay remaining tax certiorari judgments and settlements against the County with a priority set on paying the residents of Nassau County first

(Mineola, NY) – Nassau Democrats have fought for months to ensure that Nassau residents get their fair share of the tax certiorari judgments and settlements that have been placed against the County after taxpayers grieve their taxes. While for years the County has postponed refund payments and frequently only paid when the courts demanded; one big issue the Nassau Democratic Caucus fought to ensure was that when refunding winning grievances, we should start with the residents first.

“It seemed outrageous to us that there was a procedure in place for residents to rightfully grieve their taxes; but Nassau homeowners weren’t made priority one when it was time to issue the refunds after they won their grievance,” said Kevan Abrahams, Democratic Minority Leader of the Nassau County Legislature. “We figured if we’re going to have to make payments and right the wrongs of the system; the hardworking taxpayers and homeowners of Nassau County should be the first in line to benefit.”

“After years of being put off, it’s time that Nassau taxpayers are made the top priority by ensuring that they get their fair share when it comes down to refunding tax dollars that are rightfully theirs. Today we are proud to announce that the Democratic Caucus will vote to pass a bond ordinance on Monday, February 22nd, in the amount of $61,200,000 million dollars to pay outstanding tax certiorari judgments and settlements against the County with a priority on paying the residents of Nassau County first,” concluded Leader Abrahams.
