GaylorVetOrg

Legislator Bill Gaylor joined with County Executive Bruce Blakeman, Legislator Steve Rhoads, Comptroller Elaine Philips, and veterans from all over the County at the Lynbrook VFW, to distribute $10,000 payments to 25 local veteran organizations. The money comes from federal American Rescue and Recovery Act (ARPA) grant funding meant to help these organizations who were struggling as a result of the pandemic.
“When the COVID pandemic shut down everything, it also shut down the catering and event halls that these veteran groups rely on to keep their American Legions and VFWs open,” Legislator Bill Gaylor said. “Nassau County has more veterans than almost anywhere else in America, and as a retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel, I understand that these halls and organizations are important to those that served.  Veterans are the true heroes of this country. I am very proud to help them receive these payments.”

To date, more than 25 grants have been approved in Nassau County and additional applications are currently being processed. In District 6, these include:
VFW 1790 in Valley Stream
Lynbrook American Legion Post 335
Disabled American Veterans Chapter 145 in Valley Stream
American Legion Post 303 in Rockville Centre
American Legion Malverne Post 44

Plus, the nearby:
American Legion Cathedral Post 1087 in West Hempstead
Jewish War Veterans of USA Chwatsky-Farber Post 717 in Oceanside
VFW Post 120 in Garden City Park
Robert F. Garrison Veterans of Foreign Wars of the US in East Rockaway
Elmont Post American Legion No 1033
