LD 12 Map Meet Legislator Rich Nicolello

Family

Legislator Rich Nicolello and his wife Susan have two children, Kathleen and Patrick. Rich is a life-long resident of New Hyde Park.

Education

Rich Nicolello graduated from New Hyde Park Memorial High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Politics (Magna Cum Laude) from St. John's University. He received his Juris Doctor from Fordham Law School. He is a member of the Alumni Associations of Fordham Law School and St. John's University.

Leadership in the Nassau Legislature

Rich Nicolello is the Deputy Presiding Officer of the Nassau County Legislature. Legislator Nicolello also serves as the Chair of the Legislature’s Finance Committee. He is the Vice Chair of the Rules Committee, and is a member of the Budget Review Committee. He has represented the 9th L.D. since the inception of the Nassau County Legislature.

Recognizing that Nassau residents pay some of the highest property taxes in the nation, Legislator Nicolello has consistently voted to hold the line on the county portion of the tax bill. He voted to repeal the Home Energy Tax and to cancel the previous administration’s planned 16.5% tax hike.

Legislator Nicolello has voted for public-private-partnerships that save the county millions each year, including more efficient and effective ways to provide bus transportation, operate Nassau’s sewage treatment facilities, and meet the medical needs of inmates at the county jail. Legislator Nicolello has supported reduction in the county’s work force and consolidation of county departments to achieve greater savings.

Rich Nicolello has delivered legislative grants to all of the communities he represents and has sponsored and supported programs and policies that make government work for the people. At the same time, Legislator Nicolello has consistently stood up for the residents and has fought proposals that threaten our communities.
Professional Background

Rich Nicolello has been a practicing attorney since 1986. He is of counsel to the law firm of Congdon, Flaherty, O'Callaghan, Reid, Donlon, Travis & Fishlinger, where he leads the firm’s insurance coverage group. He served as Counsel to the Board of Education of the New Hyde Park - Garden City Park U.F.S.D. from 1987 -2009. Mr. Nicolello is admitted to the New York State Bar, as well as the Federal District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts. He is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association and Columbian Lawyers' Association (the professional association of Italian-American attorneys).

Community Involvement

Legislator Nicolello’s community involvement includes: New Hyde Park Kiwanis Club (past president), Mineola Lions Club (2nd vice president and past secretary), Cellini Lodge, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, Chamber of Commerce, Irish-Americans in Government (associate director), Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Notre Dame Parish, Wildcats Soccer Club (former coach), Parks Civic Association, Shelter Rock District, Theodore Roosevelt Council, Boy Scouts of America (member-at-large), Jewish Advisory Network for Security on Long Island (honorary policy committee member), CARE (Committee Against Rail Expansion).
