Veterans Hiring Pledge

Vets Pledge

Congressman Steve Israel joined Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Long Island Association President Kevin Law, Long Island Federation of Labor President John Durso and representatives from local companies to sign a pledge that they will commit to hiring veterans in New York.  In 2013, the unemployment rate for veterans in the State of New York was 8.2 percent, while the national rate was 6.6 percent.

The Pledge to Support Our Veterans, which was signed by representatives from all companies, encourages veterans to apply for positions in the participating companies; coordinates and intensifies efforts to identify, train, and hire veterans through the Nassau County and Suffolk County Departments of Labor and Veterans Affairs and encourages companies to engage with local and regional groups to broaden outreach to veterans with relevant skills and experiences. Companies wanting to sign the pledge and get involved in hiring veterans should contact Michael Stinson of Congressman Steve Israel's office.
