Plead Guilty to Traffic Violation
To plead guilty to a traffic ticket complete and sign Part A including your current address and signature on the reverse side of the ticket and mail your ticket with a certified check, personal check, or money order to:

If you would like a receipt, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope. If you’re charged with speeding or you’re unsure of the assessed fine, you may plead guilty, complete Part A including your current address and signature, and mail without payment. The court will notify you of the fine or you will be told to appear at a subsequent date.

Plead Not Guilty to Traffic Violation
To plead not guilty by mail, and request a supporting deposition, complete Part B including your current address on the reverse side of the traffic ticket sign your name and mail the ticket within 48 hours from receipt. If you do not require a supporting deposition, you may complete and sign Part B including your current address and mail the ticket to:

We must receive this on or before the return date of the violation. You will receive a conference notice for a date and time to appear. (Please note: A conference is a meeting between a traffic prosecutor and you or your authorized representative, to discuss your options).

Definitions
  • A supporting deposition is a written affirmation detailing the traffic violation and signed by the police officer.
  • A conference is a meeting between you and the traffic prosecutor to discuss a possible reduction of your ticket.

Plead Not Guilty to Traffic Violation & Reschedule Conference or Trial Date
If you plead not guilty and received a conference or trial notice and wish to reschedule the date, you may call 516-572-2700 or write to the agency requesting a new date. You are entitled to two adjournments.

To change the date for a trial, you, or an authorized representative must appear on the trial date at 9 a.m. with a notarized statement addressed to the clerk of the court explaining why you cannot appear on that date. This statement will be presented to the judicial hearing officer for review and if accepted the case will be adjourned. Your failure to appear for a scheduled trial will result in the suspension of your driving license. Plead Not Guilty to Traffic Violation & Missed Court Appearance Date
If you missed an appearance date, and you have not entered a plea, late fees will continue to accrue until a plea is entered. You must enter your plea by either appearing any Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. or by writing a letter with your guilty or not guilty plea. If you plead guilty, you will receive a billing notice. If you plead not guilty, you will be sent a notice to appear for a conference. You can not change (Please note: A conference is a meeting between a traffic prosecutor and you, and/or your authorized representative, to discuss your options.)
